Ted Bundy

Ted Bundy confessed to 30 homicides in seven states. Oftentimes, Bundy approach young women in public places, pretending to be injured, or impersonating an authority figure. He would then assault and murder the women in private locations.

Bundy was arrested for aggravated kidnapping and attempted assault in Utah before becoming a suspect for other crimes in other states. He faced murder charges in Colorado, where he escaped prison twice and continued to commit additional assaults. He was ultimately recaptured in Florida and was executed in 1989.

Bundy was largely able to evade conviction for all of his crimes because he traveled across the country. At the time, police districts failed to communicate, meaning that murders committed in one district were unknown to others.

This map traces Bundy’s confirmed murders in blue.
